The Sima brothers, Ariel and Diego, formed their band “Farmacia” in 2000.
In 2008, Farmacia released their debut album “Nada de nada”. The song that gives the album its title was also the leitmotiv of the film “Los Paranoicos”, by Gabriel Medina and starred by Jazmín Stuart and Daniel Hendler. Farmacia also participated in a compilation of the legendary English label Søme Bizzare, the same label that keeps in its catalog: Depeche Mode, Soft Cell, The Coil, Einstürzende Neubauten, Psychic TV, Cabaret Voltaire and Val Denham.
In 2009, Adam Yauch, member of the Beastie Boys, acquired the rights to distribute and edit the film in the United States through its producer “Oscilloscope Laboratories”. By that time, they had performed a couple of times in New York and also played in Lima, Peru.
In 2011, Farmacia published the album “Desorden obsesivo-compulsivo”. At that time, people could get their album in “Gel” pharmacy as a gift by purchasing a surgical mask and sanitizer in order to fight Influenza A.
In 2015, Farmacia participated in the compilation “MITRA Music for Nepal”, together with: Ryuichi Sakamoto, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Dave Ball (Soft Cell), Wolfgang Flur (Kraftwerk), Steven Severin (Siouxsie & The Banshees), among others. It was an initiative taken by Anni Hogan, British musician.
In 2016, simultaneously with the departure of the 11/13 supermoon, Farmacia released “La sangre del sol y la luna coagulada”. They collaborated with Val Denham + Monte Cazazza, Godfather of industrial music that was evaluated in London in the 70s. Some of Farmacia many presentations: BUE festival (they shared a date with Massive Attack, Human League, Andy Fletcher); Fuga Jurasica festivals (at the Museum of Natural Sciences); They also played at Fundación Proa, Alianza Francesa, Niceto Club, CCEBA, at Pharmacy Gel and in various pharmaceutical events (organized by the Official College of Pharmacists and Biochemists of the Federal Capital and by Organization of Ibero-Latin American Pharmacists).
In 2020, the band signed with Wraith Productions. The band now makes their return with their self-titled album “Farmacia”, an extraordinary trip and intrinsically their most darkest to date, an album which marks the bands 20th anniversary. The album sees astonishingly noteworthy appearances by lengendary and longtime collaborators of the band such as Monte Cazazza, Val Denham and Sebastián Rodriguez Porto.
Words by the band on the new album:
“This album was recorded quite quickly: we used effects on the voices in order to make a difference from the ones we have been using so far. Several songs have been recorded very differently, we took advantage of the tools offered by the recording studio. There are themes that are composed from improvisation and by using the “cut and paste” method. We have been working in this process little by little on our previous album “La sangre del sol y la luna coagulada”. Musically speaking, this is our darkest album despite the theme “Hambriento de amor”, which we have to confess, is truly pop. The artist Val Denham collaborates on “Decidimos hablar” (synthesizers and drums). We also recorded several albums with Val. She not only paints and makes music but also designed album artwork for Marc Almond, Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV among others. In 2019 the album Val Denham + Farmacia “The devil knows your name now” was released on the German label Psychofon Records who has released The Residents among others. Sebastián Rodriguez Porto (former Farmacia member) participated on “El núcleo de la tierra”, “Todo parece estar perfecto”, “Veo el sol” (synthesizers, bass and guitar). On this album we also have the participation of the legendary industrial musician Monte Cazazza on 3 tracks “ADN”, “Quiero entender”, “Signos de amor” (synthesizers and drums), who with we had already composed a song together called “Libero mi alma”. This song has a music video and is on our album “La sangre del sol y la luna coagulada”. The cover art of the new album was made by Diego Sima, with photos by Manuel Wolfson and Ariel Sima.”
